About the Workshop
Excited delirium is the rapid onset of bizarre and often aggressive behavior, shouting, paranoia, panic, violence toward others, unexpected physical strength, hyperthermia, and often culminates in sudden death. Law Enforcement is inevitably requested along with emergency medical responders. Join this webinar to learn the causes, signs and symptoms. We'll review case studies and best practices when responding to and after these types of incidents.
As increased demand places larger strains on systems in general, the burden has increasingly shifted to those in front-line response. This is especially true when it comes to the care of those in mental health and substance use crisis. With diminishing resources across multiple sectors and a season marked with loss and uncertainty, it's no surprise there are greater numbers of crisis calls than ever before. Lieutenant Eliott Mahaffey, Co-Founder of CIT Connect and supervisor for the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Division, teaches active crisis de-escalation skills and verbal techniques, drawing on his 24-year experience as a Sheriff's Deputy and 12 years as a CIT Officer and Coordinator for the Hamilton County/City of Chattanooga Crisis Intervention Team.
